It's hard to believe that the
Certified Teacher of Fun and Fresh Ideas has put her experiences in the
classroom into a book. I am not ashamed to admit that I have read CTFO reviews
about this book. In my opinion, there are many parents who are now trying to
read these CTFO reviews to see if they should buy the book.
One of the greatest advantages about
CTFO is that she has received many accolades from her students who have been
able to learn with her. These people were able to help her share some of her
own experiences in her book. There are many things that the students have to
teach other than just the "C" word. With such great testimonials from
the students, it doesn't seem like they can help but to read them!
You might be asking yourself, how can
a person possibly get such a bad review for the book? After all, it's such a
fun book! This reviewer states, "This book would be a great
"lunch-time" read for my young daughters. We all know how we feel
about reading by the book, so this was a welcomed change.". She goes on to
say, "My students really seemed to appreciate the attitude this book has
for teaching..."
Of course, this reviewer is probably
not going to actually use the book herself, so why should we be mad at CTFO?
Well, I'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt and assume that she didn't
read the book before writing her review. Well, since her personal experience
did not go well, she might not be as objective as she first appears. It is also
possible that the students in the class or in her own classroom are not much
more educated than her and are not able to voice their frustrations to the
teacher in an open and honest manner.
Anotherexample of someone complaining
about CTFO reviews is one reviewer who claims that his child never had a good
time with the book. His kids were constantly distracted by the subtitle,
"The C-Word: Challenging Your Student's Social Scripts". You see,
it's up to us as parents to keep our children from thinking that bad words are
the only way to get a good grade. If we really want our children to get the
most out of education, we have to be firm but fair about it.
Parents should never criticize a book
and also have to criticize the book's author, and other people that make fun of
CTFO review are now doing it as well. The author of the book is very
passionate about children. She is not upset with the reviewers. You can't blame
her for this book because after all, it is her life's work.
The reviewer who is a parent should
not be criticizing people who have chosen to read her book in the first place.
She has done this in the hopes that people will learn something from her
experiences in the classroom. Parents have to be careful that when their
children are listening to reviews, that they don't assume that the reviewer has
experienced that same situation as the one the parent is describing. When a
parent gives an unbiased review of a book, this will show that the book was not
badly written and it also proves that parents should not complain about these
types of books.
The fact that parents are being upset
about a few people complaining about CTFO reviews means that there are many
parents who are glad that they purchased the book. Even though the reviewer had
a negative experience with the book, she still thought that it was an educational
book that the children needed to read.
